Grinder Pump Specifications

Secion A. General

1. Applicant shall provide, construct, operate, and maintain a sewage grinder pump installation of a type and size acceptable to Gulf Shores Utilities that shall be suitable for delivery of sewage into the sewer system. Said grinder pump installation shall be in conformance with the requirements more particularly described in Section B hereof.

2. Said grinder pump installation and all appurtenances shall be located within the property provided service thereby and shall be included a discharge line of suitable size from the pump station to the point of connection to Gulf Shores Utilities' system at the property line.

3. Installation Fees as set forth in the Board's regulations shall be due as shown on the above referenced Service Permit.

4. Applicant agrees that should gravity sanitary sewer service be made available to the property, he shall immediately connect to said system and shall pay any assessment or like fees as may be established for such sewer extention. Said commitment to pay such assessment shall run with the property and the applicant shall disclose same to any successor owner of the property. No additional Installation Fee, as addressed un Item Three (3) above, will be due for such connection.

5. Gulf Shores Utilities reserves the right to refuse to serve any property via low-pressure system for any reason whatsoever. Should such service be denied and sewer service is not or cannot be made available by gravity system, Installation Fees for sewer service may be refunded as set forth in the Service Permit.

Section B. Grinder Pump System

1. Terms utilized herein to characterize classification of service shall have the same meaning as set forth in the Gulf Shores Utilities Resolution 90 - 4, as same may be amended.

2. Grinder pump installations shall be equipped with a check valve and anti-siphon device on the discharging piping. The anti-siphon device shall be mounted inside the pump charger (tank) within two (2) feet of the top.

3. Grinder pump shall adequately grind all waste flow constituents, including grease, rags, fecal matter, etc., to such an extent to permit efficient passage through a one inch (1") discharge pipe without clogging or plugging.

4. Grinder pump installation shall, at a minimum, conform to the following performance and physical characteristics:

  a. Residential Service (Single Family) - Minimum two (2) horsepower simplex pumping system capable of introducing into the GSU system ten (10) gallons per minute of properly ground waste at a total dynamic head of ninety (90) feet. Minimum tank volume of one hundred fifteen (115) gallons.

  b. Residential Service (Multi-Family) - Minimum of a duplex pumping system capable ofintruducing into the GSU system properly ground waste at a total dynamic head of ninety (90) feet. Pumping system requirements for horsepower, pumping rate and tank volume shall be determined by Manager for each specific installation.

  c. Basic Commercial Service - Same as for Residential Service (Single Family) as set forth in the B.4.a. above. Potential Peak Demand (PPD) in excess of twenty gallons per minute (20 gpm) shall require pumping system as set forth in B.4.d., B.4.e., or B.4.f. below.

  d. Commercial Service (PPD up to 40 gpm) - Minimum two (2) horsepower suplex pumping system capable of introducing into the GSU system with each pump ten (10) gallons per minute of properly ground waste at a total dynamic head of ninety (90) feet. Minimum tank volume of three hundred seventy (370) gallons.

  e. Commercial Service (PPD up to 100 gpm) - Minimum five (5) horsepower duplex pumping system capable of introducing into the GSU system with each pump twenty-five (25) gallons per minute of properly ground waste at a total dynamic head of ninety (90) feet. Minimum tank volume of six hundred sixty (660) gallons.

  f. Commercial Service (PPD greater than 110 gpm) - Pumping system requirements shall be determined by the Manager for each specific installation.

No other pumps or pumping system may be connected to the Gulf Shores Utilities system without prior written authorization from the Manager.
